About SecurePDFNow
SecurePDFNow offers free, browser-local PDF tools. The focus is on password protection (AES-256 encryption) and unlocking: you can lock a PDF with your own password and permission restrictions, or remove restriction settings from a document you are entitled to use. Alongside those, the site keeps the everyday utilities — Compress, Merge, Split and Image to PDF. Every tool runs inside your browser, so your files never leave your device.
Why this site exists
Most free PDF tools work by uploading your document to somebody’s server, processing it there, and sending it back. That is a lot of trust to place in a website you just found — and for contracts, IDs, invoices or medical records, it is trust you probably should not be handing out casually.
SecurePDFNow does the opposite. The tools are ordinary web pages that run JavaScript in your own browser, so the file stays on your machine the whole time. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and no account is needed. It is a small, unglamorous site built to solve a common problem without asking for your data.
The six tools
- Protect PDF — encrypt a PDF with a password (AES-256) and optional permission restrictions such as disallowing printing, copying or editing.
- Unlock PDF — remove restriction settings from a PDF you are entitled to use. If it has an open password, you must know that password.
- Compress PDF — shrink a PDF’s file size so it is easier to email or upload.
- Merge PDF — combine several PDFs into a single document in the order you choose.
- Split PDF — pull out a page range, or split one PDF into separate files.
- Image to PDF — turn JPG or PNG images into a single PDF.
How it works
The site is plain HTML, CSS and client-side JavaScript — there is no backend doing the work and no build step. PDF handling is done with pdf-lib in the browser, and images are drawn to a canvas before being embedded. Because everything runs locally, you can even open a tool and use it while offline, and your files never travel over the network.
The only thing stored on your device is a small counter in localStorage that keeps track of daily free usage. It contains no personal data. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
What it costs
Nothing. SecurePDFNow is completely free, needs no registration, and adds no watermarks to your output. Hosting is covered by unobtrusive advertising.
Who runs it
SecurePDFNow is a small independent project run by a solo developer, not a company. Feedback, bug reports and suggestions are genuinely welcome — see the Contact page.
